Originally from North Carolina, where she attained BA and Masters Degrees from East Carolina University, Joan taught school for several years before the Thoroughbred business lured her to Kentucky via Virginia. A “hands-on” horse person, she developed a farm in Virginia, was the Honorary Secretary of the Loudoun Hunt, and began buying and selling Thoroughbreds. After her move to a small Kentucky farm that she renovated as a viable breeding operation, she also became a licensed Thoroughbred trainer, alongside her husband, a lifetime trainer. Joan not only developed two farms, but also restored the historic homes on those properties. As a licensed realtor for many years, she brings her personal property experience to buying or selling both farmland and residential real estate.
